Have you served in the military? Here’s some info on applying to Occidental just for you!
Occidental values the contributions that veterans make to the Oxy classroom and community. We therefore encourage qualified individuals who have actively served in the United States Military to apply for admission to the College.
Veterans may apply as either first-year or transfer students, depending on the amount of college coursework units they have completed. For transfers, our college's registrar will determine how much credit will be awarded for work completed at other institutions. Please consult the transfer section of our Admission website to determine if you qualify as a first-year or transfer.
We understand that military service can result in gaps in educational enrollment. If you have been out of school for more than one year, we recommend that you enroll full time in challenging college level courses prior to submitting an application. Our General Education Worksheet can help you develop a plan before you apply.
Occidental College uses both the Common Application and Coalition Application for both first-year and transfer admission. Please refer to the Applying or Transfer Students sections for detailed information on what documents and exams are required for admission. We understand that the Common and Coalition Applications may not completely capture an individual's interests and experiences, so please be sure to detail any special circumstances in the additional section of either app.
Occidental College is committed to helping students make college affordable; we meet 100% of a student's demonstrated need. Additionally, Occidental College participates in the U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs Yellow Ribbon Program to assist veterans with funding higher education. For qualifying veterans, Occidental's contribution will cover full tuition. For additional information on available financial aid, including our participation in the Yellow Ribbon Program, please contact our Office of Financial Aid.
Applying to college can sometimes feel overwhelming. Should you have any questions or need help navigating the process, Admission and Financial Aid representatives are available to assist you.
Yellow Ribbon Program
As part of our commitment to enrolling U.S. veterans, Occidental College participates in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Yellow Ribbon Program. The Yellow Ribbon Program is a provision of the Post-9/11 GI Bill that allows students to attend schools costing more than the state tuition cap. For qualifying admitted students, Occidental's contribution will cover full tuition.
