Dina has been teaching piano since she graduated from high school in Ohio, where she studied privately with Robert Howat at Wittenberg University. Upon moving to California, she studied with the esteemed Hungarian pianist Ernö Daniel at UCSB. She was staff accompanist at Palomar College for three years before earning her M.F.A. at UCLA, where she was a student of renowned pianist Johana Harris. For the following six years, she worked as assistant editor to lexicographer and author Nicolas Slonimsky, during which time she copyedited and prepared six of his publications, including Baker’s Biographical Dictionary of Musicians 7th Edition, his autobiography, Perfect Pitch: A Life Story, Scriabin: Artist and Mystic, and Supplement to Music Since 1900. In addition, she was assistant to Los Angeles arts and music patron Betty Freeman. For one season, she was the executive director of Club L’Ermitage, a private arts and dining club in Beverly Hills which produced an exclusive performing arts series and provided funding for charities and cultural institutions. This was followed by a year at Warner New Media as the editorial director of classical music CD-ROM projects. In subsequent years while raising two daughters, she was administrator of the Ernst Toch Society, maintained a private piano studio, and was accompanist for Temple Ore Chadash and Congregation Beth Shalom. She has taught piano classes at Occidental College since 2002.
