Students majoring in Kinesiology have the opportunity to perform hands-on experiments using a variety of physiological, biomechanical, and motor control and learning equipment.
The Department has three instructional labs: 1) anatomy, 2) human performance, and 3) motor control and learning. The anatomy lab has a large selection of life-size anatomical models and charts for the following systems: Skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive. The human performance lab is equipped with various instruments to measure oxygen consumption and energy expenditure during rest and exercise, force production and motor unit recruitment, blood glucose and lactate levels, blood pressure, body composition and flexibility. The motor learning and control lab includes equipment for measuring gross and fine motor skills, balance, and reaction time.
In addition to assigned course labs, students are encouraged to utilize these resources for independent research projects through enrolling in Direct Research and/or Independent Studies with faculty members.
