Hey everyone, my name is Keane. This is my first time blogging for the Office of Admission, so I’ll start off with some basics. I’m a senior economics major here at Oxy, minoring in education and sociology. On campus, I’m a member of Oxy’s Impact Fund (a microfinance club) and the Vice President of Phi Kappa Psi (one of Oxy’s eight greek organizations). I’m from Huntington Beach, CA and still have no idea what exactly I’m going to be doing next year despite seemingly being asked every time I talk to someone. I couldn’t be happier with the time I’ve spent at Occidental and am excited that you all are considering Oxy in your college application process.
I was going to write this blog looking back at my last four years here, but I’ve got class soon and don’t want to get too nostalgic. Instead, I’m going to talk the college bucket list a few of my friends and I made at the beginning of the year. One of the nice things about being at Oxy and living in a massive city like Los Angeles is that it’s impossible to run out of things to do. I’ve made a conscious effort to go out and soak up as much of our campus and city as possible, and I still have so much I want to do. As a result, our actual bucket list is extremely long, so I’ll just give you a few of the important ones:
- Attend a sporting event for each Oxy team (shoutout to the men’s soccer team for beating Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday to move to 11-4)
- Meet the first-years that live in my old room in Braun
- Try every taco truck in Eagle Rock and Highland Park (except for you Rambo’s. Never Rambo’s.)
- Crash an Oxy wedding
- Be an extra in a an on campus filming (I’m already in the background for the last season of Arrested Development when they shot at the Cooler)
Looking back at my college experience is great, but it’s too early in the year for that. For now, I’m just going to try and complete as much of this list as possible and enjoy the rest of the time I have here. Thanks to anyone that made it this far for bearing with me, and I look forward to giving you all updates over the rest of the year.
