Through Oxy at the UN—the only full-time residential internship program available at the United Nations—you’ll spend a transformative fall semester in New York City, where you will undertake rigorous and impactful internships in addition to Occidental seminars.
Immerse yourself in the richness of New York City as you learn about all things United Nations. You will gain invaluable real-world experience, develop global leadership skills, and build a professional network at one of the world’s most influential organizations.
As an important component of this program, full-time internships at UN-related agencies, missions or non-governmental organizations are complemented by two Occidental academic courses: DWA 401: Special Topics in UN (4 credits) and DWA 402: The United Nations and Conflict Prevention: Actors, Architecture, Tools, Practice (4 credits). Students also enroll in DWA 403: The UN Experience Internship (8 credits).
Generally, internships are located in and around Midtown Manhattan, where students live together in dorm-style accommodations at the 92NY Residence. Occidental has longstanding partnerships with many government and non-governmental organizations where interns can be placed. Past placements have included:
