Dorian Wood performs a collection of compositions that challenges our perceptions of complicity and defiance.
Dorian Wood performs a collection of folk standards and new compositions with a voice that "inhabits a room like a choir of ghosts" (LA Weekly); songs that address a wildly conflicted world while challenging our perceptions of complicity and defiance, within the space of the former corner “Ocxy Store”. Collaborator: Michael Corwin, guitarist.
Dorian Wood seeks to glorify both the sanctity and irreverence of intimacy. Through the use of their corpulent body and booming voice, Wood revels in challenging the artist-audience separation, using subject matter informed by their position in society as a nonbinary person of color and an autodidact. Their work has been showcased in concert halls and performance spaces around the world, including at The Broad, REDCAT, The Stone (New York) and Teatro De La Ciudad (Mexico City). As a musician, they have released over a dozen recordings. Wood's recent Chavela Vargas tribute project XAVELA LUX AETERNA debuted at the Festival de Arte Sacro in Madrid in 2019.
