Join us on Tuesday evenings to learn from community leaders who are on the ground implementing change in Los Angeles and across the country.
A core element of our partnership with the In Plain Sight coalition is to consider how artists and art spaces can be advocates for social change, on a local and global level. As part of our fall programming, we are offering a series of workshops led by community organizers on topics related to our exhibition and critical to supporting the well-being of our communities—abolishing prisons, ICE and police, and creating community care through mutual aid networks.
All workshops meet on Tuesdays, at 5pm PST.
October 13 - Reimagine LA: Abolition on the Ballot with Justice LA
This November, L.A. County residents will vote on important propositions and measures that may deeply impact the carceral system and create opportunities for community based care. Join JusticeLA Coalition members Eunisses Hernandez and Ivette Alé to learn about Prop 25 and Measure J, take collective action together on the call, and connect with JusticeLA's work to Re-Imagine LA and abolish prisons this election season and beyond.
The JusticeLA Coalition was born in the Fall of 2017 from the community based advocacy of countless families separated by the largest jail system in the world. In partnership with grassroots organizations, advocates, directly impacted communities, and stakeholders, they work to reduce the footprint of incarceration by stopping jail expansion and reclaiming, reimagining and reinvesting dollars away from incarceration and into community-based systems of care.
October 20 - Take Back Tech to Abolish ICE with Mijente
Criminalization is big business. Tech companies are building the tools used to surveil, incarcerate, and deport our communities. But our communities, along with tech workers, students, academics, lawyers, activists, and other allies are fighting back. Join us as we explore the network of tech companies profiting off of law enforcement surveillance, and how together, we can fight back.
Mijente Support Committee is a Latino/Chicano political, digital, and grassroots organizing hub. Launched in 2015, Mijente Support Committee seeks to strengthen and increase the participation of Latino people in the broader movements for racial, economic, climate, and gender justice.
October 27 - Mutual Aid Praxis with Ground Game LA
This workshop will cover the history, foundations, and principles of mutual aid, and offer hands on tools for creating and connecting with mutual aid networks. During the workshop, there will be opportunities to connect with local organizers doing work on campus, in Los Angeles, and beyond.
Ground Game LA is a horizontally-managed, grassroots group, building community & electoral power in Los Angeles. Ground Game members are volunteers, staffers, and impacted community members across a broad range of neighborhoods, organizations, and campaigns.

Upon returning from occupying Iraq in 2006, she became radicalized through personal reflection and learning from the lives and experiences of communities at home and abroad. Since then, Wendy has organized with Ground Game LA, Mutual Aid Network LA and About Face: Veterans Against the War and collaborated on campaigns including #Landback and #JusticeforVanessaGuillen and #AbolishBorders.
