This talk, sponsored by the Biochemistry Program, will present how Alumni Speaker Dr. Darshana Patel uses her studies in science to produce a variety of opportunities in all aspects of her life and career.
Dr. Patel was most recently recognized as both a 2022 City of San Diego Woman of Distinction and a 2022 API Leader of Influence by San Diego Business Journal. She is a scientist, elected official, and community leader with professional experience in board governance, education policy, and project management working towards raising the level of local civic engagement. As a second-generation, American-born Indian woman, she also understood early on that success comes primarily from persistence, coupled with dedication and collaboration. Through her combined formal educational experience from earning a B.A. in Biochemistry at Occidental College, a Ph.D. in Biophysics from UC Irvine, and working in biotech research at Genentech in the Bay Area, she has developed and continually applies a collaborative approach to problem solving.
