Ovidio Mauricio is the director of Tutela Legal Dra. Maria Julia Hernandez, a leading human rights organization currently defending many of the tens of thousands of innocent people who have been detained under the State of Exception, a suspension of various constitutional rights that was imposed in March 2022 that has led to mass arrests and widespread human rights abuses, including the deaths of over 150 people while in custody. Tutela works in coordination with other human rights groups, including IDHUCA and CRISTOSAL, and together have submitted over 3000 writs of Habeas Corpus on behalf of innocent citizens and community leaders wrongly detained under the State of Exception.
