A hands-on letterpress printmaking workshop inspired by the exhibition, Mercedes Dorame: Where Sky Touches Water.
THIS EVENT HAS A NEW DATE: April 18th, 2024
Join us for a hands-on letterpress workshop led by exhibition artist Mercedes Dorame and fine press printer Jocelyn Pedersen. Inspired by the exhibition Mercedes Dorame: Where Sky Touches Water, participants will work with natural dyes and pigments to produce one of a kind prints.
Letterpress printing, is an artwork dating back to the first printing press, a process in which metal and wood type are used to create words and designs on paper. Located in the Lowercase Print Shop at the Mary Norton Clapp Library, this workshop is an opportunity to engage with typography and the history of book art!
All materials will be provided. Space is limited, registration is required.
Jocelyn Pedersen is a Los Angeles based artist and fine press printer. She teaches courses in Book Arts at Occidental College and private courses in printmaking and ceramics from her home studio. Both her works on paper and works in clay are grounded in the use of wild plant and mineral pigments and how materiality and place can come together.
