Join us for a special tour of the Moore Laboratory of Zoology with Director and Curator John McCormack. Explore invisible hues and extinct and endangered species while discovering biodiversity among a vast bird study skin collection. The Invisibility: Powers and Perils show includes a number of specimens from the Moore Lab. Before or after the tour, stop by OXY ARTS to see the specimens in the context of the exhibition.
Natural history collections offer a wealth of information and serve as a hub for discovering nature, exploring the history of specimens, and inspiring scientific questions. Moore Laboratory of Zoology is home to the world’s largest Mexican bird collection and offers audiences, researchers, and students alike an insight into environmental science and genomic research utilizing modern and historical museum specimens. The lab explores how modern bird diversity arose on the landscape, ecological and evolutionary processes driving the origin of new species, and bird conservation on a changing planet.
Parking & Directions
Moore Lab is located closest to Occidental’s entrance at the Armadale Avenue and Campus Road intersection and can be found on Google Maps (GPS of the entrance is 34.126642, -118.210054). From the entrance, head north on American Way and right on Weller Road and parking is available all along Bird Road. When on Bird Road, head west under an overhead walkway and make a direct right up a hill before you enter the main campus area. Moore Lab will be at the top of the hill. The collection is on the second floor and elevator accessible.
