RSVP now to join the SECOND ANNUAL Olive Harvest Fest taking place on Friday, November 1st from 8am - 1pm! Harvesting will occur all day until 1pm; come by whenever you have time to help harvest! Lunch will be served around 12:00pm.*
The 2024 Olive Harvest Fest marks the second annual celebration of our campus olive trees, a signature event of the Office of Sustainability in partnership with Grounds Management. Planted in 1936 by Beatrix Farrand, Occidental College's Olive Grove represents the best of our campus climate resilience. Requiring very little water, these trees can survive -- and even thrive! -- in extreme conditions, making them incredibly drought-resilient. Olive trees also have the remarkable ability of absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and storing carbon in their roots; in fact, just 2.5 acres of olive trees can offset one person's entire lifetime of carbon emissions! On top of it all, they produce one of the most nutritious foods in the world: olives! Come celebrate and learn more about these amazing trees at this year's Olive Harvest Fest!
Participants will enjoy hand-picking olives from our beautiful trees, a specially-curated, sustainable Oxy catering menu using Oxy Olive Oil from the 2023 harvest, music, prizes, and community building!
This event is FREE and open to the public! Please join us!
*Please note, you must participate in the harvest in order to enjoy the lunch!
