The Hameetman Career Center (HCC) is Occidental College's primary resource for career preparation and internships. We believe it's never too early to begin thinking about life after Occidental and to set yourself up for success.
First-Year Student Employment Preparation (STEP) program
If you are eligible for work-study, you are invited to participate in our First-Year Student Employment Preparation (STEP) program. While student employment is managed by Human Resources, the career center’s STEP program provides a limited number of paid on-campus jobs exclusively for first-year students who received work-study in their financial aid. The STEP hiring process is competitive and obtaining a job is not guaranteed for all students.
To meet the requirements to apply to STEP in the fall, you must attend two workshops—resume writing and interview preparation–which will be offered this summer:

You can register for the STEP prep workshops through your Handshake account.
Activating Your Handshake Account
The career center uses the Handshake platform to manage its career preparation programs. You will need to activate your oxy.edu account first in order to set up your Handshake account. Once your account is set up, you can register for events, explore our resources, and build your Handshake profile by adding any previous work or volunteer experience. A complete profile will increase your chances of being contacted by a recruiter for a job or internship opportunity.
