Tropical Storm Hilary passed through Southern California last night, bringing heavy rain but causing minimal impact to the Occidental Campus.

The center of the storm has since moved out of the region, and the National Weather Service forecasts that the last of the rain is expected to leave Los Angeles before noon today.

New-student move-in, Orientation and most other College events that are scheduled for today are proceeding. We will operate normally in order to welcome new students and their families and support them as they get acclimated to campus.

We encourage all members of the College community to remain attentive to weather and road conditions and take appropriate precautions when traveling to and from campus. Employees who experience weather-related issues that impact their ability to fulfill their work expectations should contact their supervisors to discuss options.

Accommodations will be made for students and families who experience travel delays due to the storm and are unable to get to campus in time for required move-in or Orientation events. Families who are experiencing travel delays are asked to contact the Student Affairs team at deanofstudents@oxy.edu to let us know when they can safely arrive.

Please use caution while on campus. The ground may be slippery and you could encounter storm debris. If you see a safety hazard, please report it to Campus Safety immediately at 323-259-2599 or via the LiveSafe app. For life threatening situations, call 911.

Please continue to check your email and monitor the oxy.edu website for the latest updates.
