Sunday, June 14 is the date for our virtual live streamed celebration of the Class of 2020.
Dear Class of 2020:
Please mark your calendars for Sunday, June 14 at 10 a.m. (PST). That’s the date for our virtual live streamed celebration of all you have accomplished, academically and personally, over the past four years -- as well as the character and grit you have shown during the past few months of pandemic-driven disruption.
We have not forgotten that your top priority is an in-person Commencement celebration. The College is committed to making that happen and the Commencement Committee will continue to work over the summer and fall towards that goal. Our virtual June 14 event is not a substitute. But we could not let this important milestone for you and the College go unobserved.
To enhance the June 14 celebration, Commencement celebration boxes will be sent to each graduating senior the second week of June with your diploma, a Commencement program, cap and tassel, and cultural grad and academic stoles, honor cords and certificates. The live streamed celebration will include brief remarks from me and Deans Wendy Sternberg and Rob Flot, performances by the Glee Club, and most important, a reading of each graduate’s name (look out for the special shoutouts from faculty and staff while the names are being read!).
We hope this event will give you a chance to celebrate your many achievements with your family, friends and classmates, albeit remotely. It’s also an opportunity to welcome you as Oxy alumni and to demonstrate the enduring strength of the Oxy community that transcends the miles that currently separate us.
If you have any questions about the June 14 celebration, please contact Laura Crescenzo at crescenzo@oxy.edu.
