Biology Seminar: Dr. Rodrigo A. Medellín

Dr. Rodrigo A. Medellín is a Mexican ecologist and academic known for his work in the field of mammal ecology and conservation. He has worked with bats, jaguars, bighorn sheep, and ocelot, among others. He works at the Instituto de Ecología at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He has received many prestigious appointments and awards for his work in mammal conservation. In 2014 he was the subject of a BBC documentary film titled Natural World: The Bat Man of Mexico. He is the seventh Explorer-At-Large of the National Geographic Society.  

Mindfulness Group

A 4-week psycho-educational group that provides opportunities to learn about and engage in various mindfulness practices.  Each week focuses on different information and practices, including mindful breathing, mindful eating, body scan, managing difficult emotions, and loving kindness.  Practicing these skills helps with anxiety, sadness, critical thoughts, improving focus, and feeling more present in everyday life; it is a way to practice being less reactionary and more thoughtful in our decisions.  Participation in all 4 weeks is encouraged.  Meets from 12-1 pm PST on April 8, 15, 22, 29.

Representation Matters Speaker Series: Dr. Naima Sharaf

Naima Sharaf got her undergraduate degree in Chemistry at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. She carried out her Ph.D. studies at the University of Pittsburgh in the lab of Dr. Angela Gronenborn where she used fluorine solution NMR to understand inhibitor-induced conformational changes with HIV-1 reverse transcriptase.
