Our Telefund student calling center, Student Philanthropy Council, and Senior Class Gift program build a culture of philanthropy on campus, foster connections between students and alumni, and promote an understanding of the importance of giving back among the student body. Learn more about each program below!
- Telefund
-
Telefund is Occidental’s student fundraising program. Our dedicated student callers raise critical support for the Oxy Fund and other areas of campus each year. Additionally, these Tigers make wonderful connections with alumni, current parents and parents of alumni; provide College updates and insight into their experience as students; and keep our community informed about campus happenings throughout the year.
Our “Telefamily” is composed of approximately 30 students of all undergraduate years, majors and minors, and campus activities and involvement. Telefund callers give you a ring from the Tiger Den in Thorne Hall, making more than 250,000 phone calls to Oxy alumni and parents each year!
We hope you’ll connect with these hardworking-students and hear about Oxy directly from their perspective. You may receive a Telefund call from (323) 259-1445.
If you haven’t received a call from one of our students, please email giving@oxy.edu to provide your updated phone number.
- Student Philanthropy Council
-
The Student Philanthropy Council (SPC) is an extension of the College's Institutional Advancement (IA) Office. This representative student group advises the IA team on ways to build a culture of philanthropy among the current student body. The mission of the SPC is to educate the student population about the role of philanthropy at Oxy and inspire a lifetime connection to the College through giving back, both as students and as alumni.
The SPC is made up of students who want to make a difference at Oxy. Members of the Council acquire real-world knowledge and experience in fundraising, project management, marketing, public relations, and more. Additionally, members develop practical career, presentation, and event planning skills, all while building their resumes and networking with fellow students, alumni, staff and faculty.
Some responsibilities of the SPC include: Engaging the student body in understanding Oxy’s financial model and the importance of philanthropy; thanking and stewarding current Oxy donors; implementing programs and events to encourage our on-campus community to give back to Oxy, including on the College’s annual giving day, the Day For Oxy; and helping students understand how donations impact their everyday Oxy experience.
- Senior Class Gift
-
The Senior Class Gift is a longstanding tradition in which seniors leave their legacy at the College. All gifts to the Senior Class Gift help fund current student scholarships, supporting Oxy’s commitment to meeting 100% of the demonstrated financial need of all families. This is the graduating class’ chance to give back to future Oxy students, just as graduating seniors of the past helped their successors.
Support Oxy’s mission of access and excellence by making a gift to the Senior Class Gift today! You can also support this effort by serving on the Student Fundraiser subcommittee within the Student Philanthropy Council.
