Composition Seminar concert

The event is titled COVID STUDIES, as each student was tasked with writing an étude ("study") in response to the pandemic.
Nine world premieres of piano two- and four-hand pieces will be streamed live from Nadia's studio, with themes inspired by Black Lives Matter, mourning, distance, wildfires, fugues, and more.
Students featured in this concert include Brendan Kim, Ian Chitwood, Cheng Wang, Ryan Walker, Sherry Gao, Sherwin F Zhang, Olivia Oosterhout, Forrest Love, and Brandon Markson.

Virtual Matriculation

Although it was not possible to gather and attend an in-person Matriculation this fall, President Elam invites first-year and transfer students to join him virtually by selecting to attend one of the Matriculation "Welcome Sessions" being offered from 12 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. PT on Tuesday, November 10 and Thursday, November 12.

Biology Seminar: Neelou Etesami '14

Neelou (Class of 2014) is currently an MD/PhD student at the Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM), where she has completed the preclinical portion of medical school and is currently pursuing her PhD in Microbiology. Her graduate research under the mentorship of Dr. Joseph Mizgerd focuses on elucidating the dynamics and protective functions of a recently defined population of memory B cells that are tissue resident in the lung.

Kinesiology/Athletics Guest Speaker - Shawn Hueglin - Performance Nutrition: Digging in Deeper

Shawn has practiced as a sport dietitian for over 15 years. She is currently a Senior Sport Dietitian with the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC). She primarily supports team sports located in the Los Angeles area, spending most of her time with indoor and beach volleyball and water polo. Prior to the USOPC, Shawn was an Assistant Professor of Kinesiology at California State University, Long Beach. She has extensive experience providing nutrition consulting to recreational, collegiate, and Olympic level athletes.

Biology Seminar: Dr. Alias Smith - Navigating a STEM Career Journey

Dr. Alias Smith will discuss the real-life ups and downs of pursuing a STEM career, using his science career as an example. He will discuss his selected educational and career path, opportunities taken and missed, and the decisions that positioned him to become an Associate Program Director at the National Science Foundation (NSF). Dr. Smith currently manages the NSF Research Experience and Mentoring Program and is active in other activities focused on enhancing the academic and career trajectories of individuals at all levels in science and engineering.
