A Day in the Life of a Physician Assistant Student, featuring Will Reeves ’16

Hailing in from Claremont, CA, Will Reeves attended Occidental College where he majored in Kinesiology, conducted hematology research, and played on Oxy’s football team. In his free time, he enjoys volunteering with @peace4kids and @healingheartsacrossborders. After graduating from Oxy, he and his research team discovered a novel anticoagulant they named after the school called “Occipodin” which was later presented at the American Society of Hematology. After research, Will took a bit of a detour from medicine and became an entrepreneur.

A Detroit native, visionary storyteller and multiple award-winning filmmaker, Christine Swanson earned her MFA in Film from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, one of the nation’s top-ranked graduate film programs. CNN identified Christine as one of the most promising filmmakers to emerge from NYU’s graduate film program since Martin Scorsese, Ang Lee, Oliver Stone, and Spike Lee (Christine’s NYU directing teacher). Christine also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame, double majoring in Communications and Japanese.

Adventures in Academia: An Underrepresented Perspective

Professor Navarro is a Los Angeles native who earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry at Yale, and his Ph. D. in organic chemistry at Caltech. He then went on to conduct chemical biology research at Stanford University, where he served as a National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow. As an assistant professor at Occidental College, Dr. Navarro teaches organic chemistry, and his research focus lies in developing new chemical reactions and applying them in the synthesis of biologically active natural products.
